The first kind of car part that comes to mind when fixing one's car is OEM car parts. The term "OEM" stands for "oe manufacturer," which means that OEM automobile parts come straight from the company that made the car to begin with. Quite simply, if a person's Chevrolet Cavalier were to fail because of the alternator or basic then an OEM alternator or basic could be purchased in order to repair the car. The benefit of buying oe manufacturer automobile parts is the fact that there will generally be considered a warrantee on the part that is bought. In addition, the first is usually assured that the part will continue to work and fit the car on the first try.

A downside to placing your order OEM automobile parts is the fact they are generally much more expensive that other styles of automobile parts. Whereas other auto parts may be around $50, the same vehicle parts that are bought from the OEM may be up to $150. The price makes all the difference, too, when mending your car, so it may not automatically behoove you to buy OEM auto parts.

On the other hand, the other kind of auto parts that can be purchased when mending a car is after-market automobile parts, or auto parts that are created for the same automobile by third-parties. These car parts are usually much simpler to run into, plus more auto repair shops and retail stores generally take after-market auto parts as opposed to OEM vehicle parts. That is one of the big benefits to buying those types of vehicle parts, but another is that they are much less expensive than OEM vehicle parts. This was touched on in the last paragraph about OEM parts, but after-market car parts are usually 50% or even more less than the original manufacturer's car parts.

All things considered, it is very up to the individual and the situation when the car is being restored. Many people choose OEM vehicle parts because they will be the safest type of parts to go with, but quarrels for third-party car parts are because they're much cheaper tend to be more accessible.
